Breathing Space is a domestic abuse project delivered by Womens Health Matters funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport through their “Tampon Tax’ fund. The project provides group work for women who have experienced domestic violence and trauma, have Social Work involvement due to domestic abuse, or require access to counselling.
An initial 6 week ‘closed’ stabilisation group is offered, with the opportunity to move on to a longer term open group. This open group explores issues women bring in relation to domestic abuse through structured issue-based sessions and facilitated peer support. Sessions include managing difficult emotions, coping with stress and developing relaxation techniques.
